Failed quiz attempt not registering in LMS

Feb 29, 2016

Hi all, fairly (very) new to this...

We have built a course with quizzes throughout and results slide at end. When the learner passes and closes out it comes off their learning plan in our LMS (good). If the learner fails and closes out of the course our LMS (Success Factors) leaves it on their learning plan (good) showing they attempted it but doesn't give us a fail result (bad). This leaves the door open for the learner to have an argument that they completed it, passed it and its a computer issue why its still on their learning plan. We would really like to eliminate this option by having an indication that they failed. When pulling a report it shows date, time and how long they were in the course but to results (pass or fail)

Does anyone have any idea how to set this up or where I can find resources to help?

Cheers..

Hi Brian,

I can't speak to the specific set up of Success Factors, as it sounds like you may want to reach out to your LMS team? If you're tracking by a results slide, have you also looked into which passed/completion method you're using or if your LMS is dependent on a particular SCORM setting? You may also want to begin troubleshooting by reviewing the article here on testing in SCORM Cloud which is an industry standard for LMS testing. This article will walk you through a number of troubleshooting steps.

Brian:

I would like to underscore and validate Ashley's point.

In my own organization, we had to experiment with a couple of different pass/completion methods for our Quiz before finally stumbling upon the one that worked for our LMS.

The good news is, once you find the setting(s) that work, you should be fine to use this for all of your eL courses, unless of course, your LMS changes significantly.

Try changing the settings for the Quiz and then republishing to your LMS.

I would also suggest reducing the number of questions in your project (build a Prototype quiz Project with 2-3 questions) so you can accomplish this testing much more quickly and save time.

Once you finish the live/complete LMS-hosted version of your course, you can check the results and see if the appropriate PASS/FAIL results are working as expected.

Hi Mark, thank you for your time and knowledge. Funny enough I had done what you suggested with the 4 slide test course just last week after putting a few people through a barrage of lengthy testing..They were quite pleased with that let me tell ya.. I am waiting now on our LMS to reply with their requirements so we can set things up to see the failed result and test scores. It looks like its coming together.

Cheers

Hey, Mary Ann!

This discussion is quite a bit older, so I don't know if Brian is hanging around in E-Learning Heroes any longer!

No worries - our Support Team is here to help too! If you're able to connect with them, they can take a look at your course and offer up some ideas such as enabling LMS debug mode or testing in SCORM Cloud to determine what's occurring in your LMS.

Keep us posted if you figure it out - as you can imagine, it may help someone else in the future!
