Fails to load course from last viewed point.

Jul 06, 2012

I'm experiencing problems loading a part completed course from the LMS.

The player and 'Do you want to resume?' dialogue box appear, but if I click 'Yes' to resume, it sticks with the load bar pulsing but not moving and no content comes into view.

If I click 'No' the course will load at the first slide (as expected) without problem.

I'm running Kallidus LMS.

Anyone had similar issues? If so any fixes?

Cheers

Steve

Hi Stephen,

It's possible your LMS isn't picking up the data we send. If you want to see the exact data that is sent, you can check it out by enabling LMS Debug mode in the content.  Here is how you do that. (The instructions are for Presenter, but will be the same for Storyline). This might be helpful for your LMS vendor to see if/why it isn't picking up the values that we are sending.

1) Can we change the setting in the unzipped files in the LMS rather than republishing the modules?

2) I notice an unusual occurrence that might answer the data possibility: if I click yes to resume, but then click no to start afresh, the quiz questions are pre-populated with my previous answers, and (it is set with only 1 attempt) the answers cannot be changed although the submit button processes to the next slide. This indicates either a) the data is being collected and resent by the LMS. However, once I get to the point where I bookmarked the course, it will not progress beyond that point. Which might indicate b) the computer is showing cached data.

What do you think? A yes to point 1 will speed things up enormously!

HI Stephen,

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you.

1. I'm not sure which setting it is you're referring to, but editing published output isn't something that we can support. Can you be a little more specific here?

2. It does sound to me like the resume data is not being read by your LMS for some reason. Have you had a chance to turn the debug log mentioned in this article over to your LMS team? Also curious to know if this is happening on just the one course, or others as well?

Stephen Hodges

Thanks for your support guys. The setting was the debug setting in the configuration file. We've done that anyway.

We've established the LMS is receiving and sending back resume data to the module. The problem appears to be related to the quantity of data being sent and the quality of the user's internet connection. For example, on a 1.5mb internet connection speed, it will take around 15 minutes for the resume to complete. In which time the user has either switched off or timed out. The further through the assessment a user is also affects this, so if 2 or 3 questions have been answered, it takes several minutes, whereas if 20 of the 25 questions have been completed, it will take 15 minutes.

I believe this is an issue identified in other threads and addressed in article: http://www.articulate.com/support/kb_article.php?product=qm9&id=xh1pikni4q70

We are using 25 questions from a pool of 40, is that considered 'large' in Articulate terms?

Hey Stephen,

Just wanted to check in and see if you've made any progress here. I'd say typically, 25 questions out of a pool of 40 isn't unusually large, but courses can vary quite a bit. If you'd like us to take a look at your .story file and see if we can identify any obvious issues, please feel free to submit a case to our support team. Thanks!
