File Permissions and Web Object Picture

Oct 16, 2013

Hello everyone,

I'm posting this because I ran into a problem yesterday while designing for a client. I was working with a web object, and designing an image for it. My usual work process is: to create an image, add it to the Storyline file to see it in context, and then overwrite the image as needed to make adjustments.

I discovered that when Storyline uses an image for a Web Object, it locks the permissions of the image file.  The only way I can overwrite the image to tweak it, is to quit Storyline, overwrite the image, and then relaunch the application.

This is very tedious. If anyone has had a similar issue, or found a way to work around the problem, that would be great.

Thanks.

Hi Julia,

Are you adding this image as a placeholder for a web object that won't load automatically? You'll want to make sure that the image is located on your local drive along with your Storyline files so that you don't encounter any odd behavior.

I looked through the forums, and didn't see any similar issues to refer you to, but if you'd like to have us take a look at it, are you able to share your .story file with us?

Hi Ashley,

The Web Object is set to load when clicked. I noticed when I right click the Web Object placeholder (?) on the Slide it gives me the option of "Change Picture" in the context menu. This is how I was adding an image to the web object. And yes, the images I've used are all located in the same directory.

I will upload a portion of the .story file. It will be interesting to see if support can duplicate the issue.

Thanks for your help.
