First time sharing content
Aug 08, 2012
I am trying to share a storyline file via the web. I have read the posts here that provide suggestions. None of them have worked. For instance I published the file to MyDropbox\Public folder and I can see several files on storyline and even access a public link, but none of the links work. Should I just be able to click the story.html file in the publich dropbox folder? When I try I get a blank screen or this message: ERROR: Could not load the file 'story_content/data.swf'. When others try they get this message: "Error (403) It seems you don't belong here! You should probably sign in. Check out our Help Center and forums for help, or head back to home." Even after creating their own dropbox account and signing in.
I am having similar issues publishing via other methods in the tool. When I publish to email and my users unzip the file and try to select the Story.html file they get nothing. Even though from the Successfully published screen I can View the file and take the course.
Day 2 of dealing with the trying to get file published for review fiasco / learning curve. Can someone help?
Thanks,
Stacey

OK Basics - in the folder what file do my users select to execute the course?
Hi Stacey!
Sorry for the trouble you've been experiencing. Can you please attach the .story file here, or send me a private message so I can test the course from my end? Thanks!
If your users are unzipping it to their machine, I expect the flash security will stop it running. publish to cd and ask then to lauch using the launch_story.exe file
Peter, which is the .story file? See my pic above? story.html? There are no files with a .story suffix.
I tried to publish to a CD. No luck yet. If I could ever get to a point where I see a launch_story.exe file I imagine I'd be good to go. Maybe I have a setting wrong in the Publish UI?
Hi Stacey,
What you have in the picture above is the published output. The .story file is the source file. Have you had a chance to check out our Publish for CD tutorial to see if there's a step you may be missing? I hope that helps...
Thanks for the .story info. CD publishing doesn't work for me. Sharing data via CD device is discouraged due to security policies and employees are distributed across the globe. BUT, I solved my problem temporarily by using the Articulate Online trial, which works great but will expire in 30 days of course. The company has an LMS that I'll have to learn to share my Storyline training with at some point soon. However my next courses will roll out 30 and 50 days from now. And my original problem will still exist.
