Flash Player 10 or Higher Error
Dec 11, 2014
I've been using Storyline for some time, but when I tried to open it today, I received a message that reads "Flash Player 10 or higher for Internet Explorer is required to run Articulate Storyline. Would you like to go to a web page to download it now?"
I have IE10 on my computer but don't use it, preferring other browsers. I also already have Flash Player 11 installed.
I can't get past this message. Has anyone experienced this as well, and if so, how did you rectify the situation? Thank you. Scott

Hi Priya,
Just an FYI if you reply via email to the thread, your signature is included in the post. You're welcome to edit that if you'd like to remove that information.
I am using Studio 09 and have received the same message. Is there an update for that version?
Hi Christina,
There is not an update for Studio 09, as within our testing it was not impacted. Do you have any other Articulate programs installed? Are you trying to import Studio '09 content in Storyline perhaps? If you have Adobe Flash Player 16 installed, you may find that you can't import Articulate Quizmaker '09 quizzes into Articulate Storyline 2. This is a known issue. It'll be fixed in the next software update for Storyline. In the meantime, you can import Quizmaker '09 quizzes by first upgrading them to Quizmaker '13.
If you don't have Quizmaker '13 or don't want to install it, you can share your .quiz file with us here or send it to our Support team and we'll be happy to update it foryou.
Hi there. Just ran into this issue today and was relieved to find this thread. However, when I download update 8 and attempt to run it, I get the following error:
The installed version of the application could not be determined. The setup will now terminate.
I've attached a screenshot.
Any suggestions for resolution? I'll have to be prepared for when our IT department arrives to assist.
Thank you.
Hi Sue,
When installing a software update for Articulate Storyline, you may encounter the following error message:
Here's how to fix it:
If the issue persists, please let us know.
Has there been a fix for this for just articulate? I am not using storyline but am getting the same error on articulate need a fix ASAP
Hi Thomas,
Do you mean Articulate Studio? There are fixes available in the latest updates for Studio '13, Storyline 1, Storyline 2 and Replay. Studio '09 was not impacted.
I am using articulate engage 13 is that the same as the studio? Forgive me still fairly new to articulate
Hi Thomas,
Yes, Engage is a product within Studio - that link will allow you to download the update that resolves the Flash Player 16 issue.
Thanks Ashley,
'I just ran the update but it does not seem to have resolved the issue....Still getting the flash 10 error any other thoughts?
Hi Thomas,
Did you reboot after going through the update? Some users mentioned that resolved it (I personally didn't have to do that - but different systems and all). If you're still having difficulty, can you connect with our Support team so that we can gather more information about your system? Please let them know you've already done the update for Studio '13.
Yes I did the reboot, also tried rerunning the update still nothing likely since it is up to date... I'll see what the support team says.
What I don't understand is that I have been using STL1 without this error up through yesterday and today I receive the error, only after installing STL2. Can the two not coexist on the same machine? I read that they can. Why would the install of the newer version cause this error with the older one?
Hi Ashley! Yes, you can utilize both Storyline 1 and Storyline 2 on the same machine. Not sure if your computer just updated and that is now why you are seeing the issue.
Ashley,
I have downloaded the updates like you said. But nothing changed...?
Is there anything else we can do?
Hi Gab! If the update did not correct your issue, I would encourage you to reach out to the support team here.
Hi Gab,
After downloading the updates are you still receiving the same error message? If so, can you please connect with our Support team so that they could do a bit more digging into your set up?
Hey Ashley!!
I found what my mistake was!! Thank you for your quick reply!
Now, I know now that I shouldn't jump to conclusion too quickly!
Thank you for your great service!!
Thanks Gab for the update - and glad to hear you're back up and running!
Hi guys
I am now having an issue with Flashplayer 17 which was recently released. Any ideas?
Hi Mark
are you on the latest update for your SL version. This was addressed in Dec last year.
SL1 - update 8
SL2 - update 5
Hi Mark,
You'll definitely want to download the latest updates as Wendy mentioned, and if you're still having difficulty can you connect with our support team so that they can gather more information about your particular set up?
Thanks team
I used an install file that our IT people had placed into a folder a couple of days ago. It must have been older version.
I uninstalled, downloaded the new version and it is running fine now thanks.
Thanks for the update Mark and glad to hear everything is working again.
