Flash supported in future?

Nov 15, 2012

Hello dear Community

Articulate is based on Flash. I heard, that Flash will be dying because of HTML 5. Is this true?

If yes, will Internet Explorer automatically choose the HTML5 Version to show the E-Learning stories, so that I don't have to change the projects?

Will everything work on html 5 as in Flash or what is not supportet by HTML 5?

Thank you.

Leslie,

My issue may not be directly suited to this thread, however, it does relate to the supportability of Flash and it's replacement by HTML5.

We had developed a rather extensive training program a few years ago using Articulate Studio 09 and it appears that the customer's LMS is no longer going to support Flash content given that it is not accessible across all, or most, Web Brower's and devices (Tablets, Smartphones, etc.). That said, is it possible to import the Studio 09 content within Storyline 3/360 and then publish as HTML5? Are there any other options available?

Hi Tony,

We made it super easy to upgrade a Presenter ‘09 or Presenter ‘13 course to Presenter 360. Just open the presentation in PowerPoint, then go to the Articulate tab on the PowerPoint ribbon and click any button—for example, Slide Properties. Click Upgrade when prompted to upgrade the project.

Open your course in PowerPoint, click any button on the Articulate tab, then click Upgrade.

Your course will be upgraded automatically, and a backup copy of the original project files will be created in case you need to go back to them later. (Presenter 360 projects can't be edited or published with previous versions of Presenter.) There are some more details on how this will impact any Quizmaker/Engage files outlined here.

Once you have the course upgraded to Presenter 360, you can publish for HTML5 only and that will be viewable by learners on all the browsers outlined here.

You can also import those files into Storyline 3 (or Storyline 360) and publish for HTML5 only.

If you're curious to see how these upgrades will happen take a look at the trial of Articulate 360 here!

Ashely,

It’s been awhile since I’ve been involved in attempting to bring a project that we developed using Studio 09 (Presenter, Quizmaker and Engage) into Storyline 3 in support of converting to HTML5. I recently tried the method you outlined below using Storyline 3 and it’s nowhere near as easy or simplistic as you claim.

I imported a Studio 09 PowerPoint slide deck that included some screen casts that were created using Adobe Captivate CS5, some engage files and a quiz.

All appears to import correctly - less of course the screen casts which have to be converted from an SWF file to HTML5 - while I see text during the import function that states …importing Quizmaker and Engage files… or words to that effect, when the import is complete those files - specifically the engage files/slides are just flat slides that do not allow me to edit or open using engage, or Storyline 3 for that matter, and when publishing all goes wonky.

Is there a place where I can upload the original Studio 09 files, and the converted screen casts such that you and your team can analyze accordingly and provide me with some direction, as I spent quite a chuck of time on investigating this already and it’s not as easy and you outlined in your initial response and any tips and tricks would be most welcome, given that I have 20 English and 20 French modules to convert to HTML5 and I don’t necessarily want to have to spend an inordinate amount of time tweaking and or redoing all those modules.

Any advice, direction or guidance in support off this matter would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!!

Cheers,
Tony Morris

Hi Tony!

I'm happy to help! To clarify, you have a Storyline 3 project with Engage, Quizmaker, and Screen recording interactions. The end goal is to make edits to each. Is this correct?

Since Studio 09 (with Quizmaker and Engage) and Storyline 3 are two separate programs, you'll need to make edits to the files in the program where they were created. For instance, Quizmaker files can only be edited in Quizmaker.

Let me know if you have any additional questions!
