Flashing cursor - Field not showing preset text

May 14, 2013

I have a form for students to submit  for a certifciate at the end of course.

The first field is "Name" and I have preset text in the field "Full Name" for the student to insert their full name. There is 2 other fields with preset text as well.

The issue is the first field "Name',  the preset text disappears as soon as the form loads (the other 2 fields work fine).  I have had to put a text box to the left of the field so users know what to insert.

Is there a way for the first form field to show the preset text.

Kim,

If I'm understanding you correctly, what's happening is that the first form field is "active" when the slide starts.  Can you try moving the text box up in the timeline and see if that helps?  The goal is to remove the focus from that box at slide start.  Here's a thread where a similar issue was discussed:  http://community.articulate.com/forums/p/23064/127221.aspx#127221

Hope this helps!

Hi Mike and Kim,

Kim, I've attached a file with two slides. The first slide has ONLY 3 text entry boxes on it. And, as you described, in preview mode the first text entry box shows up "blank" - that is, the text disappears.

The second slide is a duplicate BUT I've also placed an object offstage. And if you look at the timeline, that offstage object (rectangle 1) is at the bottom. And, when you look at that slide in Preview, you'll see that all 3 text boxes now contain their respective text.

So, basically, if you DO have other objects on your slide, placing any of them at the bottom of the timeline (or at least under the text entry boxes) will accomplish what you need. Otherwise, simply create an object offstage and place it there on the timeline.

And Mike, thanks for sending along that link. Because no one ever answered the question Jonathan Bacon posed and I "re-posed" (but not reposed ). Do you know the answer? If not, can you find out? Question is near the bottom of the thread.
