Font changing on me

Oct 27, 2014

I'm doing some basic editing of existing courses that were originally built in SL1. These courses include a ton of text interactions, built to simulate on-screen tasks in software being trained.

Since upgrading to SL2, I'm having issues with text boxes auto changing font to Articulate, size 21.5, white. Each of these text boxes were custom built depending on zoom level of screen capture, size of text box, etc., and were definitely all black font.

I'm really hoping this is a setting somewhere. Any ideas? Otherwise this is going to cost me a week of labor to readjust text in all 200 +/- courses.

Hi Daniel,

I've heard of a few users having issues when upgrading files from SL1 to SL2, in regards to text - so first, it's important to remember to work locally with all your project files as described here.  Looking at this file, I see what you're referring to in regards to the white text, but I'd like to take a look at the SL1 back up file that was created when you opened the file in SL2 (unless you choose to not create a back up) so that I could see the initial set up as well.

Thanks Daniel for sharing that here. I'm trying to recreate the issue - and so far haven't been able to recreate it in a new file, although I see it happening when upgrading your file. I see you're using the "rise" design theme, and it seems the default text color for that is white - so I applied the same to my project and then changed it to be black text for the fill in the blank question type - upgrading that file to SL2 gave me the same results.

Can you tell me more about how you set up this question type and what changes you made in regards to the text formatting so that I can try and recreate?

Our quizzes include quite a bit of simulation, with only a small percentage of True/False or Multiple Choice quiz slides. Mostly, the storyline files are filled with click-interactions (hotspots), but any time the software required a text interaction, I built the slide like this one.

The Rise theme was useful, since my callouts, instruction and scenario slides are designed with red BG and white text. It was easier to manually adjust the font on the text interactions, which occurred fewer times in each file.

The initial capture was created with Storyline's built-in screen capture tool. When I worked on slides with text interactions, I adjusted the fonts on a case-by-case basis. Sometimes my slide background image was zoomed in more on the SAP software screen, so in those cases, I had to set the font larger. Really, it was lots and lots of tedious adjustments.

Now I'm really confused. I decided to go ahead and manually adjust the font on this slide, and get at least one edited quiz uploaded... and apparently I don't know how to edit a font?

I've changed the font size, color, etc., several times, and they keep changing back to Articulate 21.5, white. When I change the font and preview the slide, it works; but then I click off the text field, and when I click back on it, everything is back to this crazy default.

Hi Daniel,

Thanks for sharing some more steps. Those are the same that I went through in terms of working on a screen recording, text entry, fill in the blank - and still didn't see the same thing.

So, as to your second comment - please confirm you are working locally as I mentioned before. Also, is it only happening in this one file? Have you tried importing it into a new project?  If it's happening consistently across a few files, please follow the repair steps here.
