Font size changing. Using the same computer.

Apr 16, 2014

I am working on a large module and my font size increased on some of my slides overnight.  Not all slides.  The font increase caused all the formatting to be out, and I had to go slide by slide to rework.  I have also had issues with font size changing with publication.

Hi Sharon and welcome to the community!

If this is happening in development, I would recommend checking your DPI settings. If this setting is off, it can cause some strange results with text and shape formatting.

Storyline will function as expected when Windows is set to 96 DPI (dots per inch).

Storyline doesn't currently support 120 DPI. If your system is set to 120 DPI, you may experience erratic behavior, such as:

  • Elements of the application are misplaced or distorted.
  • Objects are misplaced or distorted when previewed or published.
  • Zoomed images don't work as expected.
  • Font sizes are incorrect after using the translation features.

Here's how you can switch to 96 DPI.

It may also help to check the Zoom level of your project. Check to see if your zoom is set to 100%. If it is not, try changing it and see if that helps with the appearance of the text.

Also, you mentioned that this happens after you've published. Please make sure you're not viewing the published output files locally. To properly test your published content and share it with others, upload it to the environment for which it was published.

Publishing and Sharing Articulate Storyline Content

If you do not have access to a web server or LMS for testing, you could try using SCORM Cloud.

Another option would be to use our Tempshare server. Just keep in mind that this server is only available for testing content - it is not officially supported by Articulate and all content will be removed automatically after 10 days.

You're always welcome to try out Articulate Online, as well - it's available for a free 30 day trial.

If you still have trouble with this, please let us know if this seems specific to a project, or if the same thing happens when creating a new file.

Thanks!

I have checked my DPI and zoom levels and both are set to the Storyline Guidelines and I'm still having distorted font when I open the project. Are there any other troubleshooting tips to resolve this? We got our source files back from the vendor, and everything they published was spaced correctly, so I'm not sure what's happening when I open the files. Thanks!

Hi Elizabeth,

Thanks for the image, although I'm still unsure based on that alone. You mentioned that you're both in Storyline 2, but what about the update? We're currently on Update 7. How did they share the files back with you? Could you have downloaded them to a network or shared drive prior to saving it to your desktop? Once it's accessed from a non local source, the file can experience elements of corruption.

If you're unable to share in the forums you could always send along to our Support engineers. They can sign an NDA if needed.
