Font-Size difficulties in Storyline 3
Jul 04, 2019
Dear E-Learning Heroes,
I recently produced different (but very similar) storys with Storyline 3 and had to see, that the same buttons I created looked slightly different in the two storys. The parameters were all the same: story-size, zoom, font and font size. Finally I copied the buttons from one story into the other. I have attached the result. Can you help me solve the problem?
And there is also another issue: The points above the german "Umlaute" are displaced in the preview, although the Storyline version is switched to german. I also attached a picture. I hope you can help me with that too.
Thanks for your support,
Jan

Hi Jan,
If you haven't yet, please try to copy and paste using the option Keep Source Formatting as outlined in this link and let's see if it will solve the problem.
As for your 2nd issue, I have 2 things for you to try:
1. Are you working from a local or a network drive? Articulate Storyline works better when you are working from a local drive. See Storyline: Create, Edit, and Publish Courses on Your Local Hard Drive
2. It may also be a DPI problem, depending on your operating system, you can adjust the settings as instructed on this link: articulate-storyline-dpi-support-sl2
(This indicates Storyline 2, but the steps in changing Windows DPI settings remains the same.)
I hope this helps!

Storyline 360 shouldn't be as bad with DPI settings. I wonder what the format settings are and if the text is set to shrink to fit.
You could format paint one button to the other.
Hello Hazel and Phil,
thank you for your recommendations, unfortunately they didn´t work.
What format settings do you want to know, Phil? The font is Cambria, the fontsize 16, the story size is set to 1024 to 576, the zoom is at 110%. I don´t know if the text is set to shrink to fit, I thought the fontsize is the scale?
If I use the option "Keep Source Formatting" the fontsize is shown as 1600 (!), although it is only slightly larger than the other button with fontsize 16. If I set the fontsize "back" to 16 afterwards it still differs from the other fontsize 16.
The thing is we are 4 persons working on different stories that shall finally be merged. We used the same template but it looks like storyline 3 is producing different outputs...so it seems that I will have to edit every slide (and every button) by hand :|.
For the 2nd issue: The DPI settings are at 100% and it makes no difference if I edit and publish from my local HD or a network drive. The points are still displaced.
We cannot afford Storyline 360, it is a little out of our financial range.
Open the format menu for the shape/button choose the text tab look at the autofit properties are they different for either of the boxes?
They were different, that was the solution, thanks a lot!
Why they differed, although they derived from the same template...?
But now I can give the exact properties to my colleagues and all the stories that are yet to come will look the same.
I am glad Phil's solution worked out for you!
Thank you Hazel :)
There is still the issue with the displacement ;)
I "solved" the problem: It seems that the font Cambria in Articulate is the reason. The points are not displaced when I use Arial. So I will have to find a font that suits the language challenges and looks good.
Hi Jan,
Maybe switching to Modern Text would also be worth trying and might help you:
