Font Sizing Issues

Feb 21, 2013

Hi All!

I've been using Storyline for roughly 10 months with zero issues. This week my company upgraded me to a larger and more powerful laptop. Since switching over I've had nothing but issues with getting Storyline to work and behave as I've come to expect.

A few key differences between my old machine and new:

  • Old resolution: 1366 x 768; new: 1920 x 1080
  • Old OS: Windows 7 32-bit; new: Windows 7 64-bit
  • Old RAM: 4gb; New: 8gb

I'm not sure if any of that matters, but those are the significant changes.

Now, the issues. I opened my current project (which 100% was designed on the old machine) on my new machine and all the fonts are the wrong size. We use the Articulate 12pt for the majority of our content. Articulate says that the font is correct but the actual content on the slide is over-sized and running off the page. To remedy this, I had to manually re-size all interactives to Articulate 9.5pt to get it to match our existing curriculum. All static pages I was able to edit the slide master to Articulate 9.5pt. Almost seems like Windows is scaling the font incorrectly?

Another major issue is the player template. All menu items and button are now shrunken in size. The menu in particular is extremely small and I fear our audience will have issues with it. Again, it almost seems like the OS is scaling the font incorrectly.

Taking all of the above into account, is there a system setting somewhere that needs to be adjusted to fix these issues? My supervisor and IT manager are at a loss. We have extremely tight deadlines so I must get this resolved ASAP. Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks,

Steve

Welcome, Steven!

Sounds like it could be a DPI issue. Storyline will function as expected when Windows is set to 96 DPI (dots per inch).

Storyline doesn't currently support 120 DPI. If your system is set to 120 DPI, you may experience erratic behavior, such as:

*  Elements of the application are misplaced or distorted.

*  Objects are misplaced or distorted when previewed or published.

*  Zoomed images don't work as expected.

*  Font sizes are incorrect after using the translation features.

Here's how you can switch to 96 DPI:

That's just the thing. It only happens on the new laptop. I went back to my old laptop and everything is fine. We've been developing in Storyline for nearly 10 months now and have probably produced 20-30 products with no issue. My co-worker also got a new laptop and she was having the same issue. My theory is there have to be a setting or incompatibility somewhere.
