Fonts and layouts different on my teams' computers

Dec 10, 2012

We have Storyline on more than one PC here. We have created bespoke templates for all of our catagories of ELearning. I am reviewing content to publish it and lo and behold it looks totally different on my computer to theirs - these changes remain when uploaded. So I am having to publsich/upload everything myself after tweaking everything back to make it consistent. HELP!! One of my team is on a different version (Bizzarly??) but one is on the same as me so cant be the version.

We are having the same issue as Suzi with Storyline. We are all using the latest version.

It is making the product unusable in a collaboration environment.

We have:

  • Saved and shared the same design themes.
  • Shared the same stroyline template file.
  • Ensure the colour and fonts themes are the same.
  • Copied preferences files between the machines.
  • Machine A has problems with, say, box with text sizes.
  • Machine B has problems with font sizes (bigger on Machine B than the source machine)
  • Machine C has a different set of issues entirely.

Nothing has worked to solve the problem.

Any ideas, please let us know.

Good morning to you both and welcome to E-Learning Heroes!

Sorry to hear about the trouble you're both having with this.

Suzi, are you sharing your template with the other computer, so they have access? You might want to take a look at this tutorial on saving, sharing and using templates.

Michael, does the font size and style actually change in the scenario you mentioned, or does it just appear larger on that machine? You might want to have the other users check their DPI settings and see if that fixes at least the size issue.

Storyline will function as expected when Windows is set to 96 DPI (dots per inch).

Storyline does not currently support 120 DPI. If your system is set to 120 DPI, you may experience erratic behavior, such as:

*  Elements of the application are misplaced or distorted.

*  Objects are misplaced or distorted when previewed or published.

*  Zoomed images don't work as expected.

Here's how you can switch to 96 DPI:

If the problem continues please submit a support case with us, along with your .story file and we'll try to find out what's going on.

Thanks!

Christine

I have managed to crack the font issue!

I did save the templates and share properly and checked the DPI and they were all 96.

Although the font was appearing in the top drop down for articulate - so one would assume the font was on their PCs. I checked word/powerpoint to see if the font was there - as I initially thought I could maybe copy/paste it. It wasnt - so downloaded the font from the internet to their PCs and it is there in the templates when they open them now! There are still formatting issues/text box sizes etc but we can work with this for the time being. As at least our templates look the same when they are uploaded even if we have to tweak them a little!

I agree with Michael. We work in a very collborative environment and I read something on the Articulate site that suggested the files behave erratically when saved in a network drive as opposed to a hard drive. I dont know of many business that would not need the types of files to be accessible on a network drive.

I hope you managed to get some issues resolved Michael - I will let you know if we find any more workarounds.

Good morning Suzi,

Thanks for the update! I'm very happy to hear you were able to solve the problem with the fonts.

As far as working in a "shared" environment, yes, working with files on a network drive can cause erratic behavior. The way to work around this is to save the files from the network drive to the local machine (where the changes are going to be made). Once you've finished working on the file, you can save it and then place it on the network drive. The issue occurs when you try to run a file from the network drive itself. I understand sharing is very important, it's just a matter of handling the content at the time of editing. You should still be able to share the updated files on the network drive.

Thanks, Suzie! I hope you have a great day.

Christine
