Format of Screen Captures

Oct 09, 2014

When I add a screen recording to my training it saves it in an MP4 format if I am not mistaken. However, I have some students using older browsers that do not support this format. Is there an option inStoryline 2 toget screen recordings in another format, or is there another work around I am missing? Thanks!

Hi Donald,

Welcome to the community .

Yes, Screen Recordings are in mp4 format. I'm not entirely sure how to answer your question, but thought I could perhaps bubble it to the top ;). There IS a way to export screen recordings (I've provided instructions and a screen shot here in answer to a community member's question ... although SL1 I believe it's the same in SL2. She was asking about exporting a frame, but you can see in the screen shot you can export a movie.)

BUT I don't think that's what you're asking. So, perhaps someone will jump in.

Hi Donald and welcome to Heroes!

What browsers are the other users accessing the course through? You'll want to point them to using one of the supported browsers here for SL 2 and here for SL1.

As Rebecca mentioned, you can export the screen recordings, but it's also worth noting that videos will be encoded upon publish, and depending on their original format it may be encoded to an MP4.

Hi Don,

As Brett mentioned, and in those articles IE8 is one of the supported browsers - although a newer one wouldn't hurt for other issues.

Have you been able to connect with your IT team about the browsers "not supporting" MP4s though? Is there a block or security setting that is causing this to happen on your end? If they're able to test other browsers and determine how it works there thay may help you narrow down where the issue is occurring. There are also some other known issues detailed here on why a video may not play in your published content.
