Format Painter Won't Paste in Storyline 2

Apr 04, 2017

I am doing a tutorial (trial version) to show the different states for my navigation (hover, visited) and I selected the first tab I created with three states, then I double clicked on the Format Painter.  I then go to my second tab and I can see that the curser turned into a paintbrush, so the "copy" was successful. But when I click on the second tab to apply the formatting, nothing happens. I still have only one state.  The cursor still has the paintbrush icon, but I can't paste the formatting.  I also tried Control V and nothing happened.   I could swear it worked in an earlier tutorial, but I can't get it to work now.  Any thoughts?

Hi Lori!  It sounds like you're doing all the right things, but just to make sure, I used Peek to make a quick screencast of what my process looks like in Storyline 2.

If you are going through the same steps and still having trouble, let me know, and we'll try to dig a little deeper!  Is it happening in every project that you open/create?  Are your files saved locally?

Thanks for trying out Storyline!

Hi Crystal,
Thank you for your fast replay and the tutorial. I followed along and I am doing exactly what you are doing. I closed the “edit states” before double-clicking on the Format Painter. I see my cursor switch to a paint brush, but when I click on the other items, nothing happens. I haven’t tried it in a new slide yet, but I can do that. I am working /saving to my local computer (Mac with VM Fusion). I have attached a copy of my file, if that helps.

Thank you,
Lori

I'm glad that I mentioned it, then!  I work in Parallels, and this article describes the best setup to use when toggling between your Windows and Mac environments for either Parallels or VMWare.

When the files are shared between the 2 environments, that means that they are vulnerable to being touched by whatever processes can be happening in either environment, and it is quite similar to working on a network drive.  It took me a long time to realize that I was saving my files to a Z: drive which was shared with my Mac, and I noticed at least one problem with one of my files stored there.

So as much as you can, keep your course files (as well as any media that you will use in your courses) stored on your C: drive strictly in your Windows environment.
