Formatting Concerns with Storyline

Nov 06, 2012

Apologies if these questions were asked and answered before.

I failed to catch Articulate folks at DevLearn last week to ask questions that have been bugging my team since we decided to start developing in Storyline, in particular my team's graphic artist.

  1. The text boxes re-size depending on if you are in them our out of them. From what I have gathered from previous discussions, this is a known issue that will be addressed in a subsequent version. Is it known when this will be corrected?
  2. Is there a better trick to formatting bullet points? I am well aware that too many bullets kill a presentation, but what can be done improve formatting?
  3. Text Spacing/Sizing: As of right now, paragraphs and text can be spaced in 1/2 point intervals. Will this be opened to greater options in the future or is this the status quo?

Thanks!

Phil,

All these are known issues, and have been discussed in a variety of places.

There are many of us who share your concerns about the way text is handled in Storyline - great functionality is fine, however, the basic fundamentals have to be put in place, urgently. Workarounds are not a very appropriate solution for the basics, and for a user base that expects them to be there.

The text box re-sizing thing can, (if I am talking about the same thing), be solved by always working at 100% Zoom.

Hi Ashley and welcome to Heroes!

First you'll want to check that you're on update 4 of Storyline, and you can download it here and see what fixes were included in all the releases.  If you're having a specific text formatting issue and you'd like us to take a look we're happy to. You can share the file here in the forums or send it along to us here.

Poor text formatting capability has been a pet peeve of mine with Storyline since its first release. In my opinion it's its most glaring weakness and something I'm praying will be remedied ASAP.

Ashley, if you haven't already, I'd suggest you put in a feature request to let the Articulate team know how important it is to treat text handling in a professional way. At a minimum it should be on par with PowerPoint (and that's not saying much from a type design point of view).
