That's right. The font size and alignment don't save under the "set as default shape." This is my biggest need. How can I save the font formatting within these text boxes?
The alignment will not save in the set as default option. It will save the font size and color. In order to set a standard font size and alignment, you can set those up on the Slide Masters, or use the format painter as mentioned above, or copy and past the object you need duplicated.

Hello Katie,
There are a few options for this. You can Insert your text box or caption, and you will right click on the item, and you can "set as default"
You can Copy and Paste the item into each slide, or you can use the Format Painter
Also, you could set something up in the Slide Masters.

When you right click, what attributes are saved as "default"? It doesn't appear that alignment is saved.
