Free form text entry - how do I turn off enter to submit?

May 02, 2017

Hello all

I have a scenario where users need to put in a text entry, then click a hotspot to move on to the next slide.

However, the text entry is defaulting to submit when enter is hit. Is there any way to turn this off please?

I'm currently using SL2.

Many thanks in advance!

Hi there Chris!

This article explains how the enter key behaves in a text entry question slide and offers suggestions on how to modify it.

Do you need to capture the data that the learner types in the text entry box? If you can tell us a bit more about how you want the learner to interact with this slide, hopefully the community can share some ideas with you!

Hi Alyssa

We have 2 slides, both free form question slides where the user needs to enter a postcode / phone number, then click a button, which is covered by a hotspot. The user will see a try again layer if the postcode / phone number is incorrect or will move straight to the next slide if it is correct after clicking the hotspot. So we are trying to stop the interaction from submitting when hitting enter and only submitting when clicking the hotspot.

Any suggestions you can give will be appreciated.

Many thanks

Chris

Hi Chris

I can see you have replied via email which unfortunately means no attachments display. Also all your email signature detail is displayed in the forum which you can edit to remove if don't want it shown publically. You'll need to select 'View' from your email to come into the forum and post  your file using the grey 'add attachment' button at the bottom of the post.

Hi Chris

the freeform text entry quiz type won't work but see if the attached works for you. I've created a new scene and used a freeform pick one with offstage buttons to drive the correct answer - there is no 'enter' key issue involved.

Hope this helps or gives you an idea.
