Freeform Drag and Drop - Issue with Variable

May 14, 2018

Hello,

I am working on a freeform drag and drop activity in Storyline 360 and I am using a variable to assign points for correct (+25) and incorrect answers (-5). If learners drop the item in the wrong target, it needs to subtract 5 points but also return the item to the start point so they can try again to get it correct.

The issue I run into is as soon as I enter a trigger to subtract points for the incorrect answer, it no longer allows the drag object to return to start point, it just stays on the incorrect target.

I’ve attached an example Storyline file. I have only entered the “subtract 5” trigger on oval A.

Appreciate any help or suggestions you all may have.

Thanks!

Jackie

Thanks so much for the reply Walt! I tried your suggestion and while it seems to work, it gets very glitch-y when attempting a second drag of an object. Sometime it won't let you grab the object at all, sometimes it hides the black oval behind the grey oval so it is inaccessible and if you click the object and drag very slowly it shoots the object over to the drop targets.

I've attached another example, in case I entered the triggers, etc. wrong.

Jackie,

This approach seems to work a lot better in this case:

I didn't have a lot of time to experiment with your project, but I wonder if it would help to fiddle with what triggers the motion paths?

Thanks again for the reply Walt. I reviewed the link you provided, and the example file within that link. I think my issue was around size and time of the motion path. I changed the size to 1 wide by 1 high and changed the timing to 0.10. This seems to have solved the problem! You can click and drag repeatedly, it will return to the starting point every incorrect try and it deducts/adds the points appropriately. Thanks for taking the time to help with my issue Walt!! I have attached my example file with it working correctly, for others who may have a similar issue.
