French accents problem

May 26, 2017

Hello, I use a variable in my course and in the LMS, the accents are replaced with a underscore. (n_gatif instead of négatif). It's a encoding problem, but how can I resolve this problem?

Thanks

Hi there Mat, thanks for letting us know what's going on. I'd like to try and recreate this problem in a new file--can you help me with a few questions?

  • What version of Storyline are you using?
  • Is this happening in a text entry field?
  • Could you share a screenshot of the characters you type (négatif) and the characters you see (n_gatif)?

Hi Mathieu,

Thanks for sharing the copy of the project file and the image. I wasn't sure where you were hosting the published content but it looked a little bit like the report showing the odd accent may have been in Articulate Online (AO)? I published it here to my AO account. There you'll see the variable reference showed the accented character correctly.

I also took a screenshot of the results and answer breakdown in AO and the accent showed there too.

If you aren't hosting the content in AO, can you tell me where you're hosting it and where the report is generated from? If it's within your LMS, we can also take a look at testing it in SCORM Cloud which is a free standard for LMS testing.

Hi Mat,

That looks like the suspend data code.  The suspend data of a course isn't human readable - so items like accents may not transfer there regardless as they aren't designed to be read by anything other than the course to know where to resume too.

When I run the course in SCORM Cloud and look at the reporting screen I'm able to see that the user completed the course and that they selected the "Fortement négatif" as the answer based on the indication of "f" as the start of the choice in the interaction item.

I did notice that in your question that none of them were marked correct either - and it looks like you're using a pick one survey vs. a pick one question type - so there won't be a score associated with that.
