Fresh User. Linking two lists

Jan 08, 2017

Hi all,

I'm new storyline user, I have an idea in mind and looking for your advises on the best way to execute it.

I have two list of items each item is a code (2-8) letters and digits, and I want to map each item in list A to one or more items in list B, each item in list B can correspond to more that one item in list A.

Example:

1b12                555n

2xd9               6666e

3fg3                 54545

4jk3                 11f411

and:

1b12                 555n

2xd9               6666e

3fg3                54545

4jk3               11f411

I want the user to know the correspondent list B items for each item in list A. the number of items in list A is about 40 and in list B about 30.

I will make this stands alone and not a part of training or a course.

Your support is very much appreciated.

Hello there.

There may be more elegant ways to do this but I did it with states and a button set.  I put each of your column A numbers in shapes and added a selected state that had the column B information in it.  I made all of those shapes into a "button set" so that only one can be chosen at a time.  When each is selected it shows the proper column b.

Not pretty but may get you started.

No problem..As I said others may have better ways as there a lots of ways to do this.  Each shape (left column values) has 2 states.  Click the object on the left where you want to add or change the values on the right column.  On the bottom of the screen you will normally see the timeline.  There is a tab there called states.  If you click it you will see the normal state and the selected state for that item.  Click "edit states" then click on the selected state.  You will see the right column items come up on the screen.  You can then change anything you want in there.  When done, click "done editing states".  Repeat that for each of the items in the left column.  If you search for "button sets" and "states" in the tutorials it will help you with these.

Good luck.  This is a powerful tool and doesnt take that long to get comfortable with it.  There are always great people on these forums that will help you when you get stuck.
