Fuzzy text in caption boxes

May 11, 2017

Hi,

I recently updated to Storyline 3 and I just noticed an issue.

When I add captions to my screen the text looks fine when I am building the screen but when I preview the screen on my laptop the text is fuzzy. I noticed that there are options for desktop, tablet, and mobile devices but no option for laptops. Could this be a display size issue?

Hey John, thanks for reaching out!

We're aware of blurry preview issues in Storyline 3, and it sounds like that's what you're experiencing as well. These issues are related to our solution implemented for High DPI viewing and preview no longer being Flash like it was in Storyline 2. Storyline 3 preview displays Chromium/HTML5 content.

We are tracking how this impacts our customers, and I'll be sure to add this thread to the report. I'll also post an update here as soon as we get more information.

Keep in mind this issue should only affect content in Storyline preview, not published content. If you run into any issues with publishing, we'd want to take a look at your .story file and a link to where you're viewing the published output.

Hi, John! I'm excited to let you know that we just released Update 5 for Storyline 3check out all the new fixes and features here!

One of the fixes addresses an issue where preview would appear blurry in the desktop view.

Here’s where you can install and update Storyline 3 to see everything this version has to offer. Let us know what you think ..and if you're still seeing blurriness, please let us know!

Kind of a related issue:

When you first open a project, the working screen is displayed with the ribbon at the top, timeline at the bottom, etc.  My working display is not crisp and clear.  The black text on the entire screen is  kind of grey and just slightly fuzzy.   It is not blurry but it is not as crisp as other applications like Word or PowerPoint.  Is there some method to tweak the resolution of the work display screen?

Alyssa, thanks for the reply.  I have my scaling set to 125% which is a good compromise for ALL of my applications.  I have tried the 100% setting and the resulting text size is just too small.  I have dual monitors so I can pull up SL2 on one monitor and SL3 on the other.  I don't know what changed, but there is a distinctive difference in clarity between the two displays (SL2 being clear and SL3 slightly blurred).  This is just one of many issues I have found with the NEWer SL3.
