Getting a character dressed drag and drop question
Jun 27, 2013
Hi,
I am trying to build an activity where the learner needs to select the correct pieces of PPE for a character, depending on a scenario they have just read.
I have tried to do this using several different methods, but none seem to work very well.
Basically I want a drag and drop that allows you to drag the items on to the character (see below), and then correct or incorrect feedback depending on if you dressed them correctly.
This doesnt seem to work though as you cannot have correct and incorrect drop areas- meaning inccorrectly placed items are ignored- if you drag the correct items on, and then add the WWF belt for example this would still show as correct as the belt is not actually in one of the drop areas- just the character in general.
Also if I wanted to add the gown to the character it just sticks to the nearest drop area- you cant get it to fit onto the body as there is no drop location there.
Have also tried having the start locations as drop points- meaning the incorrect items would need to not be on the person- but back in the start location- but it would appear if the learner doesnt move an item that will then mark the interaction as incorrect. So this doesnt work either.
Any ideas, or has anyone created something similar?

Hi Will,
I'm not sure what exactly is happening or how you have built your slide, but I attach a (very rough) example of how I would do this.
Does this help you at all?
Antony
Hi Antony,
Many thanks for your quick reply.
Yes that works really well, and does what I wanted. It is weird, as yours works- and mine didnt, and yet I (appear) to have been doing it the same way. I thnk maybe some of your settings in the 'Edit drag and drop' were a bit different, so maybe this was giving me issues.
Thanks for taking the time to do this- spent ages trying to get this right, as it will be so much better than just writing slides saying...for this scenario wear this, for this scenario wear that.......
Thanks again.
Here is another, very rough, option for you ...
This one uses layers to give feedback based on each piece of clothing.
Good luck with it.
Will - I agree that this type of interaction is a much better approach. Happy to help and I'm glad this is now working for you.
Blake - great use of layers to provide individual feedback. Thanks for sharing!
Antony
Thank you Blake,
Really good idea there.
Not sure which way to go now...
Thanks for help both.
How did you get the wrong shapes to move back to their original spot?

There is a setting on the drag and drop question that allows items to snap back if they are incorrect:
