I think I know what you want. There is a KB document but can't find the link.
Add a built in button to your slide then add the shape of what button you want. Then copy the formatting from the builtin button to the one you created. If you have multiple to do, double click the formatting icon to make it stay on, then click again to turn off.
The Timeline, States and Notes tabs are is at the bottom of the view in slide view. You may have the panel collapsed. click the arrow in the botton corner on the right of the slide.

Hi San,
It sounds like a states issue.
If some of your pick one items glow and some don't I would check the 'hover'state is set up correctly.
Also check that you have a 'selected' state set up to make sure you can see which items you have selected.
