Good-better-best scenarios

I have a branching course in Storyline with 2-3 options on each slide for the user to choose from. Currently i have it as just a pass/fail course, but i'd like to make it scored on a 0-100 scale, with different options accumulating points. There are very few "wrong" options but lots of "Good" "Better" "Best" ones. As free form hotspot quizzes only allow for 1 correct answer, I was thinking of doing a hotspot pick-many quiz on each page but am unsure if this would mess up my branching triggers. And I still want the user to pick just 1 option, so I don't know if pick-many would even work. Before i jump into trial and error, has anyone done something like this before?

Hi Sarah, what about using a variable to track the score and adding the appropriate value for each question? Are you reporting the score to an LMS or just using that for your branching purposes?
I would want to track the score I think. or at the very least have it display to the user at the end. The branching is already done with buttons and triggers. How would I add variables? (I've never used variables before.) And would it interfere with the triggers I already have?
OK I watched the tutorial on numeric variables. It seems like that would work in tallying my good-better-best options... but where does this info go? How do I collect the points accumulated at the end of the course? (because there is a good-better-etc option on EVERY slide.) The tutorial shows the demo slide having a points tally at the top, but not how to add that. help?
