Google Chrome release 66, auto mute of videos

Mar 23, 2018

I've just been talking to our IT team and they have told me that Google is planning to mute videos that play automatically, from release 66, which is planned for later this year. This can be overridden but with a low IT literacy audience this is likely to be an issue.

I have a number of interactive video courses that rely on auto-play, does anybody know if this "feature" will affect storyline courses?

Thanks

Jeremy

Hi Jamie,

We haven't released any updates for Storyline 2 yet, but Storyline 3 was updated earlier this week and Storyline 360 was updated April 26 with this support for Chrome's new autoplay functionality.

You'll want to download and install the latest updates for either Storyline 3 or 360 and then republish your content. If you're still running into an issue where the audio/video won't play, please let us know!

Hi Chelsea,

If you're publishing with the latest update of Storyline 360, and media items are not playing in Chrome, we'd want to take a look at your .story file and a link/URL to your hosted course to investigate further.

You can share those publicly here in ELH, or you can send along privately to our Support Engineers here.
