Is there a way to group similar element on the timeline? For example, can I create a folder labeled 'Captions' to contain all my captions and another labeled 'Buttons' to contain just the buttons? This would be helpful in organizing a timeline that has many different elements.
I'm not sure if this works for you, but you could group similar items, which then show up as collapsible groups in the timeline. That's not as sophisticated as having folders/subfolders, but may provide some order on your timeline.
The issue is that the Timeline is also the stack order of elements on the screen.
Maybe using a naming convention to start all images with imgNameOfFile and buttons with btnNameOfButton would at least make them easily identifiable in the timeline.
Jim - as Tony says , grouping things like this may completely knock your display out of order in terms of what is at the front, at the back etc.
The Timeline is precisely that, a 2-dimensional representation of WHEN things will appear/disappear and HOW they will look - it is not a filing system.
I understand that they are a stack. The issue for me is two-fold. First, you can't move individual elements without first drilling into the group. Second, which is a bigger issue, is that if you group buttons together I find that their states are now shared. If I roll over a next button then the previous and enter buttons highlight in addition to the next button. Therefore, I cannot group buttons at all. As a old programming habit I already give everything a camel-cased naming convention.

Having a folder to drop things in without having to create a group out of them would be preferable.
Having said that I will still use this method for now to help me keep my timeline in order. I am a stickler for that.
Thanks for the info!
