Is there a way to have an object grow from one location to a specific location or fixed point? I know that they can grow from the edges of the slide, but what about if I have a point A in the upper 1/4 quad of the slide and I want the object to grow to full size at center of the slide, is there any way to do that?
Animation is pretty limited in the current version of Storyline. You won't be able to do this directly in Storyline, but you could use a Flash application to create something similar and insert the result.
I understand that I may have to use a flash application, however, I am teaching myself to use the elearning tools of the trade, I do not not what flashplayer to download nor how to get it into Storyline yet. Do you know if Articulate has a video on how to do that?
Hi Lisa! Creating the flash content would be outside of Storyline and outside of Articulate support, unless you were using our Studio '09 products. We do have tutorials on how to import those files once created.
Hopefully someone in the community will be able to guide you to what they prefer when creating flash content.
I just wanted to remind everyone that you CAN achieve some of these types of effects by creating them with motion paths in PPT and then saving the slide out as as video.
I did this one pretty quickly - I'm sure it's not exactly what you were looking for, Lisa, but you can see that this arrow grows out from the top left to the middle of the slide.
If you're not familiar with this approach, please shout out and I - or someone - will post back.
This thread is a bit older, so you may want to send Rebecca a private message, but looking at her .story file, she's inserted a wmv file as the animation element.
Yikes, I forgot all about that one! Ashley's correct that I initially created that in PowerPoint and then converted to a movie which I uploaded into SL.
I didn't save the original PPT, so I'm not exactly sure what I did!
But I was able to recreate something really close, and this time I DID save the PPT, which I'll upload here. If you don't use PowerPoint, these brief explanations might not make sense, but this is what I did
The shape I used is a notched right arrow
I added 3 animation to it, in this order:
Fade: on click
Motion path: lines, direction, down, with previous
Grow shrink: with previous
Then, to export this PowerPoint slide to to a video
Click File >Save and Send
Choose Create a video
Set the "seconds to spend on each slide" to 0.00
Click: Create Video
Save the video. In PowerPoint 2010, it saves as .wmv
Back in Storyline,
Select Insert >Video >Video from file
Navigate to the .wmv file
Looks like for effect I also placed a rectangle over the video on the timeline. For this new one I set the rectangle's transparency to 88%. I'll upload the new .story file as well. I think I need to do it in a separate post...don't think I can upload 2 files in one post.
I just tried to create an animation using your instructions. While it works great, it's saving the white background of the ppt slide. Do you happen to know how to save the video without a background?
I don't know that Rebecca is still subscribed to this forum thread, so hopefully someone in the community will be able to assist you with creating a transparent video.

Hi Lisa! I hope that Josh's suggestion helps you out. Let us know if you need anything further.

Yikes, I was looking for something else and discovered I'd uploaded the movie file and not the SL file. Homer Simpson duh.
Please see attached.
Oops.
I am trying to get this effect as well. Rebecca I would love to know more on how you achieved this. I am trying to make phone grow off the page.

K...here's the .story file that has the .wmv in it from the PPT. Hope it's all working! I'm starting to fade...way past my bedtime!
Please shout out with any questions.
Hi Nicole,
You can also do it within storyline. I've done similar animations where states pop out/ grow from a map of the U.S.
Check out this post here. I have a video demonstrating a few new animation techniques you can achieve by pasting objects within other objects states.
