Having a hard time understanding sliders

Oct 11, 2019

Just when I thought I understood how they work to make a parallax effect (after this week's ELH challenge) I can't get my idea to work!

I'm trying to get one image to come in from the left and one to come in from the right, controlled by one slider.

I'm running into two issues:

1. The sliders are not moving.

2. How do you know how long to make your track and what numbers to put into the start/end/initial/step fields? I've tried lots of combinations and they don't seem to affect the sliders at all.

File is attached.

No as long as they all use the same variable...I'm not sure why Michael uses variable 6.

I have created a VERY ROUGH (not formatted correctly) sample here using 3 sliders.

Slider 1 is the left image, Slider 2 is the right image, Slider 3 is my movable slider to slide the images. I use Slider 3 as the variable in the top left of each slider > design tab as shown in the images above.

Well geez, that's why it was so hard. I was setting up all kinds of triggers and nothing was working. :)

I had watched a video that walked through setting up a trigger to get two sliders to work together. I didn't know I could have two sliders using the same variable.

Can you tell me about bit more about how do you know how long to make your track and what numbers to put into the start/end/initial/step fields? I've tried lots of combinations and they don't seem to affect the sliders at all.

Thanks!

No worries Jen.  There are times you will use triggers to move sliders but in this case you can do it with the variable to get the scrolling effect you are after.

Glad that helped.

For me it's just a matter of testing combinations of length of track etc but you'll want your steps to be low e.g. 1 so it's smooth.

Maybe ping Michael Hinze and ask the question he is the slider / dial guru - all hail Michael!
