Help needed on resume in HTML5 on Moodle

Oct 17, 2017

I am using Storyline 360 and outputting HTML5 only as SCORM 1.2 in Moodle

I am designing a complex project where I want people to revisit the project on resume and have everything saved that they have clicked on and typed into input fields.

So in this example (a quick test) I have a text field with 2 states - normal and selected. I also have an input text box...to allow a user to type into it.

I have the slide set to 'resume saved state' although I also tried 'automatically decide' with no luck.

Anyway on the first use, after selecting the text box and entering text into the input box and exiting and then resuming...nothing is saved...the text box state is reset to normal and nothing is remembered in the input box that was previuosly typed.

I'm probably doing something really stupid...can anyone help?

Hi

Further to my post yesterday...above...

I have been testing an updated version (attached) in Moodle and in SCORM Cloud.

This allows to check a variable status, a change of state (click the text box) and text input to an input field..

1. In Moodle on resume it only updated the variable (once on the first occasion) on a second resume it would remember none of the changes...

2. In SCORM Cloud it remembered all the change once on the first resume - after that it remembered no further changes on further resumes...

This happened with a range of browsers including Chrome.

As far as I can see the resume is not working properly at the moment...

Hi Chris,

Thanks for sharing your file here! I'm seeing the exact thing you described. I wanted to enlist the help of our Support Engineers, and then I saw you already opened a case! You're one step ahead of me today. 🙂

Lea is testing your file as we speak, and you'll hear back from her shortly. I'll also follow along, as I'm really curious to find out what's causing this!

Hi Alyssa,

Any idea of time-scales for potentially resolving this issue?

We have had lots of problems with resume on HTML5 only versions of courses and moodle. Courses were resetting users back to the start if they resumed more than 3 times.  We have set moodle to allow more than 4000 characters in the resume data file.

In the end we published as SCORM 2004 v4 (which moodle is not supposed to be compatible with) and the courses run fine in moodle.  Resume works 99% of the time.  Each course has a question pack as a separate SCORM and we run those as SCORM 1.2.

I am really hoping the next Storyline 3 update has some bug fixes etc.

We published html5 content as scorm 1.2 and did the character limit override for moodle...it did not work. If the user exited the course and resumed more than 3 times they would always be reset to the start. With the 2004 v4 publishing to moodle we have found it more reliable.

I am happy to be corrected, but we just could not get a reliable html5 approach using moodle and scorm 1.2, so we had to spend time looking at alternatives.

Hi Alyssa,

Any news on a timeframe to fix this problem with HTML5 resuming in SCORM...?

Hi Chris and Leslie,

Any issues that have been fixed in Storyline 360 will also be released in Storyline 3 shortly!

The issue discussed earlier in this discussion for Storyline to retain the value of the variable of the current slide upon resume, is still an open issue with our team.

Let us know if you need anything else!

Chris Pim

Ashley,

It isn't just not retaining the variable on a slide.

It will not resume...period... at all...ever after the second attempt. It does not remember the slide you are on, any variable changes made or any text typed into boxes,..NOTHING!

It's simply not good enough for a fully fledged E Learning pacakge costing thousands of pounds for this type of serious bug not to be resolved. Even worse we have been given no indication of when it will be resolved...

I am staggered that this is the state we are in.

Hi Chris,

I'm really sorry that you're having such a tough time with the resume feature. We've prioritized this bug, and our Engineers are investigating it as we speak. We realize that this bug greatly impacts many of our customers, and we are working to find a solution as soon as possible.

I'll keep you posted on any new information I receive. Thanks for sticking with us on this, Chris.

Hi there - I am not normally one to complain about things but the ongoing saga i am having with getting my courses to run in HTML5 has driven me to it.  After waiting literally 6 months for the bug to be fixed allow scorm statuses to be passed to the LMS (without this an course published in articulate is useless to us rendering it as no more use than a jumped up web page) I have now published to HTML5 to discover that the course resume is completely messed up.  All of the navigation elements on the course master disappear on resume, audio does not play.  This course runs absolutely fine published to Flash even with the lower max suspend data limits. It does not work on SCORM cloud with the suspend data set to 64000.  It is a large course and with some complexity, however if this can be handled by the Flash version you would expect the HTML5 to do so.  I can't send the entire course across for the reason of the  protecting intellectual property.  Please can you provide more information on what you know to be the issue with the HTML5 resume so I can try to rectify myself or arrange a video conference with your technical support people so that i can demonstrate.

Sticking with Flash is just not an option any longer and its highly frustrating that authoring software positioned as industry leading is unreliable when it comes to publishing output to the format that our clients and just about everyone else in the world now expects!

Hey everybody. I'm excited to let you know that we just released update 13 for Storyline 360! It includes new features and fixes - check them all out here.

One of the fixes addresses an issue where the resume behavior was inconsistent in SCORM output.

Here’s how you can update Storyline 360 to take advantage of everything the latest release has to offer. Let me know how you make out!

Chris Pim

Not resuming properly for me I am afraid. A couple of things resumed after 2 or 3 occasions but others failing...very inconsistent. In fact the same type of resume attribute works for some parts and not others. Absolutely hopeless and incredibly disappointing.

Unless I am doing something wrong...?

I am using SCORM in Moodle.
