Help needed with reporting to LMS

I have created a quiz using variables. The scoring portion is working properly, by giving users partial credit based on the answer selected instead of an all or none scenario. 

The issue that I am having is getting this to report the "score" to my LMS. I have followed the instructions on How to send value to a variable to the LMS. It's not working since the value of my variable is numeric and the Text Entry variable for the short answer survey is text.

I have included a copy of my multiple choice quizzes. I know that I can convert these to freeform, and would love to use that option, but I want to be able to give users points for the answer the get correct, instead of the all or none that 's built-in.
