Help Please! A 8 week online course and a Jan13 deadline!

Dec 27, 2013

Hi Folks,

I am new to storyline.

I would like to produce a 8 week online training program (each week has 8-10 text, quiz & audio modules in it)

I had planned on using Moodle to organize the sign up, feedback and the 8 weeks of content. There has been a big issue with the servers not recognizing the various Ver 2.3-2.6 of Moodle.

I have looked at storyline, but i am not sure how to use it yet.  Also there is a Jan 13th deadline for the course to to be online.  I can not justify the fees for Articulate Online yet.

QUESTIONS:

  1. Can I built the 8week program c/w 8-10 modules in storyline?
  2. Is there a template that I could use for the 8weeks?
  3. Can I then install Storyline into Wordpress?
  4. Is a HTML site simple and faster then using a WordPress site.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Ross, here are some comments regarding your questions:

1. Yes, you can use Storyline to build large online training programs with any number of modules.

2. There are tons of templates out there (both free and paid). Here are only a few templates, that maybe worthwhile a look: http://community.articulate.com/downloads/g/storyline/default.aspx. My experience with templates is that no matter how nice they look, there is always something I need/want that's not included in the template. Rather than trying to shoehorn something into an existing template, I always end up creating my own.

3. It's been a while since I last looked into using Flash in Wordpress sites, so my answer might be out-of-date. According to this list here: http://en.support.wordpress.com/accepted-filetypes/ Flash is still not a supported filetype.

4. That very much depends on your familiarity with HTML and how large/simple a site you want to build. My earlier comment about templates applies here too. Wordpress themes and templates are a great starting point, the downside is that you may be limited by the options of a given Wordpress theme.

I'd rather not comment on the deadline

Hi Ross,

It looks like Michael took care of all your questions, and I have seen a number of forum threads where users have used Wordpress in conjunction with an LMS, although I'm not sure of the specifics of that.

Good luck with your project, and deadline! If there are any other questions you have, please let us know.
