Help please: Error trying to open project

Jan 18, 2016

Has anyone received this error before when trying to open a project via Storyline?

"The file name "abc123" is being used by another process or you do not have the proper security permission to access this resource."

When I try to open from my folder I have the project saved in, I get this error "This project is invalid or corrupt and cannot be opened. It may have been created in an earlier version of Storyline." I don't have any earlier version. I have Storyline 2.0 and that is the only version I have had.

I am the only one with my company who uses Storyline. I was working on my course yesterday and this morning I cannot open. I can open a different course I was working on yesterday, but not this one.

Hi, Ashley -- So sorry to hear of your difficulties!

In addition to reviewing the information here and running through the troubleshooting steps noted, there may still be a working version of your project in your temp files. Here's how to check:

1) Open this folder in Windows Explorer:

%appdata%\Articulate\Storyline

2) Scan the contents of this folder for a file that starts with the name of your project. If you find one, copy it to your desktop. If you find more than one, copy the latest version to your desktop.

3) Change the file extension of the copy on your desktop from *.tmp to *.story.

4) Double-click the file to open it in Storyline.

Additionally, I'd look at importing one slide or section at a time if the temp file is the older version you don't want to use. Please let us know if that helps or if you still need assistance!
