Help! Storyline 2 Content Disappeared to Black Screen in Storyline 3

Hello Community!

I am tasked with updating an online course created in Articulate 2 (which was working fine).  We have learners to successfully complete the course in Storyline 2.  Now that updates are due on the content and having to update in Articulate 3, the content has disappeared to this black screen (see attached).  Please provide any insights about how to keep the initial course intact.  If we need to revert back to Articulate 2, we need to know this as soon as possible.  Thanks!

Sorry to hear that you've run into an issue as well.

I took a look, and I'm not seeing where Paulette submitted a case on this issue, so I do not have an update to provide on this.

She may be still subscribed and able to chime in here of course :)

Back to that black screen of yours, did you update a SL2 file and find this issue as the user shared above? Would you be able to share your backup file so that we can take a look? You can attach it right here in the forum or here if you need to share privately.

I've determined that the black screen occurs on my end when I preview the course in the LMS. I've checked with several employees to verify that they can see the course and they all confirm that the course appears.

I've updated JAVA and Flash to the latest version and still get the same black screen when I preview the course in the LMS. I've uninstalled and reinstalled Storyline 360.

Any suggestions or ideas?

Hi Mike!

Thanks for the additional information. 

So, you are seeing the issue within your LMS and not the Storyline software? That sounds like a setting (perhaps with your computer since others can see) that you may want to follow up with your IT team about.

If you are viewing the course locally once published to LMS, please be sure to view as the other users are in the intended environment.

If I've misunderstood, please let me know.

Unfortunately, there are employees now reporting that they get the black screen when they attempt to launch the course.

Our IT person is not sure if it is an COD problem or Articulate issue. The course that get the black screen seems to be related to once the course is published the LMS the location address is changed to a blank html location. For example, on Logistics Drive Time 2 and Recording Devices in the Draw Room the URL address in the course properties reflect a blank.html location.

I've asked CD for help to figure out what is causing the problem. What do you think?

Hi there, Mike.  The URL issue is really bizarre.  I would expect to see index_lms.html at the end of that address.I think you were right to reach out to Cornerstone for some help here.  

While you're waiting for  response from them, I would recommend also uploading your zipped LMS output into SCORM Cloud.  If it functions properly there, you can let Cornerstone know that the course will behave as expected in other LMS environments.

I've published both course to SCORM Cloud before I begin the publishing process. Both course work fine and open properly. I've advised Cornerstone on Demand of the problem.

Another question - I noticed in the July 11th Build update 3.7.12582.0 that one of the fixes was this entry. Could this be the source of the problem?

Enhanced: Courses published for CD are now HTML5-only, so learners no longer need Flash plugins.

I'm still having issues after publishing course in Cornerstone on Demand. Once the course is published, I open the course in Cornerstone on Demand and a BLACK screen appears. I tried publishing the course on another computer in my office and I get the same BLACK screen. As I previously mentioned that course is opening to a blank screen. Here is the address:

My client is reporting that their employees are receiving the BLACK screen. This has only been a problem for approximately 10 days ago so something changed.

Hi Alyssa!  We, as new Articulate users, are having the same problem with the dark screen.  I developed a project in Articulate 360 and successfully tested it in SCORM Cloud.  I loaded in our LMS (Sum Total) but got the dark screen when I launched it.  I have IE 11.  Even though it has been 2 years since the last post, are there any updates on this issue?

Sorry to hear you're seeing a dark screen when testing your published content. 

Does the screen appear dark in SCORM Cloud or only in SumTotal LMS?

If you're only seeing the dark screen in SumTotal, I would recommend reaching out to your LMS administrator for next steps. Be sure to share your experience in SCORM Cloud with them as a comparison.
