Help! Templates disappeared!

Nov 15, 2013

Hi there. I created a template file in Storyline and have been refining a number of template screens within this document for the past two weeks.

Today I created a new project and inserted one of my template screens to populate it with content and see how it worked. It looked great. I inserted another template screen and it looked great, too.

Then I tried to insert another and suddenly all of my templates were gone! The template file seems to have reverted itself to a very early iteration, before I had created any screens. When I look at the file on my C: drive, it says it hasn't been edited in ten days--though I had been working on it successfully just this morning. I am frantically searching through all of my files, but no luck. It appears that all of my templates have disappeared.

Is this a common Storyline bug, and is there a way to get my weeks of work back?

Thanks for your help.

Hi A U,

I haven't heard of a specific issue with templates randomly disappearing, and you mentioned that the file you're working on is on your C drive - but you'll also want to check that:

1.  All files that you're using are located on your local drive (your C: drive). Working on a network drive or a USB drive can cause erratic behavior, including file corruption, loss of audio, and other unexpected behavior.

2. You should also make sure the directory path to your project files and your published output is less than 260 characters (for example C:\Articulate).

3.  Avoid using special characters, accents or symbols in your file names.

I would also suggest conducting a repair of Storyline, and if the repair doesn't work you may want to try following the steps outlined in this article. Let me know if you're still having difficulty finding them after those steps.
