Help! Triggers not working on a search slide

Feb 08, 2019

Hi there

I am trying to create a slide replicating a patient search.  I have spent the last week trying to get the triggers to work when you click the search button on the slide.

what i want is;

If all the fields are blank: the INCORRECT - Nothing entered layer to appear

If any incorrect data is entered: INCORRECT - Incorrect info layer to appear

If they have only searched by a first name or last name - Incorrect - Patient Name layer to appear.

If they have searched correctly: Correct Search layer to appear.

I have tried so many different avenues here.  I tried using it as a question slide but with multiple different search avenues it didn't seem achievable.  I started with variables and built a shape to change state when they have entered information and then other shapes to change state on the back of their state.

Hopefully this is not too complicated.

thank you in advance.

Hi Carrie,

I'm not sure if I'm missing something here, but I downloaded your file and tried it out and it appeared to be working fine. Using the data provided, I deliberately left bits out to replicate each of the scenarios you are trying to show and in each case the appropriate layer appeared on the screen. Are you able to elaborate on the problem you are having?

Thanks

Carrie Wernham

It sometimes seems to work but other times the triggers don't seem to fire correctly.  For instance typing only in a surname doesn't trigger the incorrect - patient name layer all the time.

This is why i have made triggers upon triggers to try and overcome this.  It would have been so much easier it it just worked first time!

Could it be because i am in Storyline 3?  I have had so many instability issues with it crashing and not saving.  This has been reported and the upshot was I am on Windows 7 32 bit.

Hi Carrie,

I'm sorry that I didn't get back to you last week, but I have to admit that I am stuck on this one. After it ran OK initially, I too have had intermittent success. I deleted all of your triggers and started from scratch and thought I had found a solution, but after working correctly three times in a row, it then failed and so I am back to the drawing board.

I am hoping you have managed to solve the problem, but if you are still having trouble with it, just let me know and I will have another go !
