Help with lightbox slide effect

Jul 27, 2012

I have created a slide, in a new scene, and triggered it to be a lightbox when the timeline ends on my 1st slide in scene 1. The slide is set to automatically advance, however once the lightbox slide opens once the user closes the slide does not automatically advance.

Additionally, it is also requiring to close the lightbox slide twice almost like there are two of them. Meaning when I click the red x it acts like it closes, but there is another one and it makes me click the red x again.

I am quite sure I am missing a trigger or have incorrectly placed something, however I can't figure it out.

I have attached the story file. Thanks so much for your help.

Stacy,

The challenge is that you're asking Storyline to do 2 things when the timeline ends.  You're saying, lightbox this slide and jump to a new slide.

What's happening is, the timeline on slide one ends and it jumps to the lightbox.  Then you close the light box and jump back to slide 1 and it starts to read the triggers again and it says "light box" slide. So it lightboxes again (hence, the light box reappearing after it gets clicked off).  In the meantime, the timeline has already ended so the trigger to jump to next slide isn't executed as it's getting lost in the shuffle.

Sooo....

In order to get this to work as you'd like, here's what you do.

Add a shape off screen and have it's timeline start right after the audio and end before the end of the slide timeline.

Set your trigger to light box at the end of the object's timeline.

What this will do is light box the slide but leave a little space on the base timeline.  Once you close the light box, the base

timeline resumes and then uses trigger 2 to jump to the next slide.

Basically, you're telling the kids to stop pushing and shoving at the end of the timeline and giving them some space to take their turns!

I've attached your file with the change.

Hi Mike and Stacy,

Tx for Q/A. Question: I created a couple scenes to play with this idea, and it works, but there's a slight flicker as SL returns to the timeline from Slide 1 and moves to Slide 2. I thought maybe yours worked differently, Mike, but I took a look and it does the same thing. It's brief, but still it's there. Is there a solution?

Hi Mike,

I was trying to figure out a solution for that too (returning to slide 1 when LB closes). My thought, which didn't work :-(

Create a variable called something like LB close and set the state to false.

Adjust the variable to true when the timeline ended for the LB slide. But I didn't see a way to do that..

In the meantime, I added a fade transition to Scene 1 Slide 2 and that makes it less stark. And in the process, I also added a transition to Scene 2 Slide 1, which is the slide that's being light-boxed. That also doesn't come in quite as starkly now.

I'm thinking maybe a more "elegant" solution would be to create a "fake lightbox", but I haven't tried that yet.
