HELP with the seekbar!

Mar 16, 2017

Hi, Community!

I have the following issue: I have created a course that contains quite a lot of videos. I want to prevent the user from skipping the video to the end by using the seekbar (by making it "read only") but I just want to do this the first time the user watches the video. Is it possible to set the seekbar as "read only" the first time and allow the user to drag the seekbar when revisiting?

I understand that it would be quite annoying to be forced to see all the video again if the participant has a query and wants to see just a part the second time he/she watches it.

Thanks!

Hi Pamela,

Here's and alternative method that may help. If you remove the seekbar in your player and put the controls on the video like this.

You can then place a transparent rectangle over the player( blocks clicking on it) which you can then trigger to have it's state hidden upon media complete.

Hi, Richard!

That seems like a nice workaround!! The only issue is that I would have to change the size of all the videos...because the controls are set at the bottom and that takes a part of the screen...and if I move the video upwards it covers a bar at the top that has the title of the slide!

Here are all the options you have:

1. Disproportionately scale the top and bottom of your video to the edges of your slide, leaving room for the controls at the bottom. This may or may not be noticeable in your video, but your video content might be ever so slightly wider.

2. Proportionately scale the video to match the width of the slide, which would leave a sliver of empty space along the top and bottom , which again may or may not be noticeable.  (This could be height and sides depending upon your proportions)

3. Change the stage size of the whole story.file so that it fits perfectly.  However, I would only do this on a back up copy, and test it carefully.

Sorry, perhaps someone may have a seekbar solution that I am unaware of and chime in.

Hello there! Psst.. did you know that update 21 for Storyline 360 is here?

What's inside: Please welcome the Conditional Seekbar in the Modern Player! You can use this new feature to prevent learners from skipping ahead until they've completed a slide. The seekbar is locked the first time learners view the slide. After that, they can drag the seekbar back and forth.

Plus many more goodies; check out all the new features and fixes here

Here's how to update Storyline 360 to see everything the latest release has to offer. Be sure to let us know what you think!
