Help with Triggers and Variables for Simulation

Nov 11, 2016

Hi,

I am hoping to get some assistance with a simulation course that I am working on.  I have attached a simplified file if you would like to check it out.

I have attached a bare bones screen of what I am working on, and I have set-up all of the triggers and variables for this course, however I am not getting the intended result.

Here is what I am trying to achieve:

1.  Learner selects Yes or No from dropdown

2. Learner selects a Reason for the "Fail" status

***issue, when a learner selects a reason, the only reason that appears is the last trigger on this layer (which is a "change state of shape to state "8" when user clicks "Hotspot 8" trigger).  It seems that regardless of how I shift and move the trigger order, the last reason, whichever one is last in triggers, is the one that appears in the "Reason Box."

The other challenge, if you have ideas or solutions, is that I want the learner to continue to try until they select the correct reason.  There will be no "incorrect/try again" feedback when a learner selects the incorrect reason.  They must select reasons and stay in this step until they select the right reason.

*Note: The client does not want the video demo option, they want a screenshot type of simulation, so that is the reason that I am not using the "try" or "do" option.

Thank you,

Dana

Thank you so much Michael, it works perfectly.

Now that I have solved that issue - or Michael Hinze did :)

The second challenge I have, and have no clue on how to accomplish...

I would like a learner to stay in the "Choose Reason" step until they select the correct reason. Along with this, I do not want them to receive any feedback until they select the correct reason.  How do I "wipe-out" or "hide" the previously selected reason so that the other options are available again?

Usually I would create a "submit" button type of interaction, however, I want to get this simulation as close to the real-world as possible and that would not include a submit button or any type of feedback if the incorrect reason is selected.

I hope I have explained my goal clearly enough...if not, let me know :)

Ok, I have some good news :)

I am almost there and here is what I have done:

I changed the layer "Reason Why Choices" to <Initial state> then added this trigger: Show layer <layer name> When the timeline starts if <variable> is <not equal to 1.00>  (*if Reason A or 1.00 is the correct answer)

I will keep my progress posted here and if you would like to assist then it would be cool :)

I have what I hope is 90% of it figured out...I need some help with the rest

I have attached this updated file.

I want a learner to be able to continue to click on the down arrow in the "Reasons" section until the White Comments Box appears.  I have tried for the past hour and no solution that I have tried is working.  Thanks again.  - Dana
