Hidden Markers

I've created a scene with 5 markers in it. My initial state for the markers is "hidden". I've got triggers set so that when you click marker 1, marker 2's state changes to normal, thus making it visible. This works fine until I add a trigger where clicking on marker 1 takes the user to a different slide that also contains 2 layers. I've set it up so that when the user has finished viewing layer 2 they click next and it returns them to the slide with my 5 markers. No matter how I set it up my next marker (2) will not become visible. I can hover over where the marker should be and my mouse icon does change and I am able to click on where marker 2 should appear and I get the response I want. I just can't see the marker. Any thoughts?
