Hide layer doesnt work in Feedback Master
Aug 17, 2018
Hi, I have a slide that shows different layers depending the button you click on the slide. So BtnA will show LayerA, BtnB will show LayerB and so on.
In all layers there are 2 buttons - Jump and Close button. Both these buttons are in the feedback master slide as these are layers.
Jump will jump to a different slide and X will hide the current layer. The problem is that Jump works but X doesnt work. It works if I move X button to the slide itself. As there are many slides with many layers I want to avoid having the button in each slide.
In the attached file, the Blue X wont work but Red X will work. At the same time, Jump button has no issues even though it's in the master.
Any idea why it doesnt work?

Not the answer you'll want to hear but this is a problem I've also had to live with for years.
Every time I have a popup/layer I need to add the close button to the actual layer as the hide layer trigger doesn't seem to work in Feedback Masters. Quite inconvenient but at least it works.
Hi Shamil,
Thanks for reaching out and for reaching out to our support team as well :)
I see that Vevette is already helping you out and following up with other members of our team.
Thanks David. Would be great if this issue is addressed - will save so much extra effort!
Hi there
Has this issue been addressed yet? I've just come across it myself in a project I'm working on.
Hi Chris
Which version/update of SL are you using? I'm on the latest SL360 and just tested with the option ticked on the slide layer to hide when timeline ends and it works - see Peek or have I misunderstood your issue.
Hi Wendy, thanks for the really rapid reply!
I'm using Storyline 360, but it does seem you may have misinterpreted my issue.
I am trying to use a hotspot inserted on a Feedback Master layer to trigger a 'hide this layer' action when the hotspot is clicked. It doesn't want to work - just doesn't seem to respond at all.
I have found a workaround (manually inserting the hotspot on each feedback layer, which meant 66 x copy/pasting), but it would be good to know that this is still on the radar for fixing as it would definitely be a problem when using large question banks and relying on custom-built feedback masters.
Sorry Chris, that will teach me to read the whole post - sorry I couldn't be of help.
I've found a bit of a workaround for this that might help:
Not sure if that's easier in your case. It's helpful for me since I want to have a lot of triggers on the Feedback Master's button. So re-creating the button with all its many triggers leads to many copies of the same triggers - which is bad for troubleshooting.
Note: using the Trigger variable trick is also useful if you do a lot of Javascript and want the JS to do more, such as show a layer, go to a slide, etc.
Thanks for taking the time to share your workaround Orest... much appreciated!
My workaround did work, but interesting to see that it is possible with a variable on the feedback master + trigger on each slide. Still quite a bit of copying and pasting though, like my workaround!
Dear Leslie/Articulate, has there been any progress on this issue since the OP?
Hi Elevate Health!
The Hide Layer trigger needs to be added to the layer in Slide View rather than the Feedback Masters. The Slide View triggers will override the triggers built in the Feedback Masters.
Why can we use buttons on Slidemasters and not on Feedbackmasters. This should have been solved a long time ago!
Orest Mykyta's solution with the triggers does work, but stil needs extra triggers on the slide layer.
Here's my workaround!
In the Feedback Master, add the triggers:
1. Pause the timeline on this slide when time reaches x.
2. When user clicks x button, jump to end of timeline on this slide.
Then check 'hide slide layer when timeline finishes'.
Hi Susan!
Thanks so much for reaching out and sharing a workaround you found success with! I'm sure other users discovering this thread will find this information very helpful!
Have a great rest of your week and happy authoring!
Hi everyone!
I have some great news to share! We just released another update for Storyline 360. In Update 81, we've included important fixes and new features.
One of the bugs we've fixed is:
Launch the Articulate 360 desktop app on your computer to take advantage of this update, and click the Update button next to Storyline 360. You'll find our step-by-step instructions here.
Please let me know if you need additional help!
