Hiding objects in base layer on master slide

Jul 14, 2016

I've created an icon on my master slide (because I want it on every slide) to trigger a layer (calling it Help layer). I'd like Help to hide some of the objects, but not all. Because this is a trigger on the master slide, I don't know how to make that happen. Any ideas?

Hi, Rebecca -- Thanks for reaching out here and for sharing your file! While I am not aware of a method to recommend for what you have in mind, perhaps others will have additional insights to share. And in case you were unaware, we also have a design-related forum called Building Better Courses here where you'd be welcome to reach out, as well.

Fill the rectangle on the help layer with white. If there are certain objects on the base you want to show, you have to design the rectangle and the slide to work together. If that won't work, you'll need to create a series of layouts that are duplicates of the main layout, but with different masks. See the difference between slides 1.2 and 1.3 in the attached file.

I like the look of your course, but I wonder why you have the icon to close the help layer on the left, instead of the right? I know some internet advertisers hide it over there to keep their ad visible longer while the user hunts for it, and I know some old Apple programs had it on the left, but  for what it's worth, I think most internet users look for it on the upper right.
