Hiding Text on a Layer (NOT the base layer)

Sep 13, 2017

I'm hoping someone can help me out with this LAST (hopefully!) issue I'm having with one of my courses.  :)

I have a slide that is a tabs interaction and has 7 layers, including one that is a "no continue" layer.  This layer pops up if the user tries to click the next button before clicking on all of the tabs.  I've worked and worked on this slide and the only thing I have left to figure out is this...

I've clicked on a tab and the text is on screen and the audio is playing.  All good! Then I click NEXT and my no continue layer pops up just fine, but the TEXT stays there!  I don't want the text!!!  But since the text isn't on my base layer, I can't figure out how to hide it.

Can someone help?  :)  THANKS!!!

I would set the No continue layer NOT to hide other layers. Then I would put something on it to cover it entirely, like a background picture, or a filled text box, or a filled shape, which would hide the text. When the learner clicks OK (or acknowledges the message), hide the no continue layer, and the learner will be back where they were before clicking NEXT.

In other words, hide the text by covering it. Since this is a visual medium, you don't have to do something, you only have to make it appear as if you did it. :)

Thanks so much Walt!  I appreciate your help!  I ended up figuring it out.  This is what I did...

On the No Continue layer's slide properties I allowed seeking and when revisiting, I set it to "reset to intial state".  I also unchecked the "hide other slide layers".

Sometimes I think just playing around with it is what helps me most!  And when I'm at my wit's end, I ask for help!  :)

Thanks again!

This couldn't be more accurate Bronwyn - sometimes you just have to play around with it. Glad you figured it out and when you get stuck you've got plenty of help waiting in ELH.
