And also, you may want to take a look at this thread regarding Storyline Player Colors, as you could possibly adjust the background to be the same color as the line, thereby making it appear 'invisible', if that makes sense.

I would prefer not to share the .story file because the content is confidential. So I am not allowed to publish it outside of our company network. That's also why the screenshot was cropped so much.
To change the line or background colour would of course be possible, but then I have a funny too big gap between the menu items. That's why I'm asking if the line can be suppressed completely.

I think it would be beneficial for our Support Staff to take a closer look at your file to see where the line in question is coming from to begin with (since changing the background color does not sound like the solution you would prefer). the case is solved. Or better: It cannot be solved because there is no way to get rid of the line.
But for other users who might stumble across this post and wonder what the solution was:

I formatted the line and the background both in the same colour. It goes like this (Thanks to Jonathan from the support for the description of the steps):

1) In Storyline 1, click Player

2) Click Colors & Effects

3) Click Show advanced color editing

4) Click listitems >> lines

5) Change the color of the line to the color of the background. I used white.

6) Click OK
