hosting on file server?

Is there an issue with running Articulate Storyline courses from a FILE server instead of a WEB server?
My client wants to play the e-learning files only internally for employees who are within the company network or connect through VPN.
As far as I know there are no server site scripts used by Articulate that would require a web server?
Maybe there are reasons that absolutely require a hosting on a web server?
Thanks in advance...

A lot of training is done over internal networks, and works just fine. What's the difference between a file server and a web server? Isn't a web server just a file server that is hooked to the internet? They both send out files on request, and SL starts and requests files. No problem.
Thanks Walt!
I think you'll need a webserver to process php, asp, etc...but these server side scripts are not used in storyline output, so that should be OK.
