hotspot not showing the hand cursor when hovering

May 27, 2019

I have a 4 hotspots on a layer that on hover will show a shape. That part works fine.  I want the cursor to change to a hand when hovering, and it won't do it. i have the option checked when I right click on it, but still it stays an arrow.  Any suggestions on what I am doing wrong here? I am using Storyline 360.

Hi Catherine,

In the attached example I have created four shapes on a layer, with each one being covered by a hotspot. When you hover the mouse over the hotspot, the mouse cursor changes to a hand and the shape appears in full colour.

I have formatted the Normal state for each shape to simply show an outline so that you know where to hover the mouse and it is the act of hovering over the hotspot that causes the shape's hover state to appear. Normally I would do this by hovering over the shape (hotspots not required), but I assume from your post that you want to use the hotspot to do other things as well as simply show the shape.

Make sure that you have the shapes and hotspots in the correct order (hotspots above shapes). If you have them the wrong way round, the shapes will change to their hover state anyway when the mouse hovers over them, but the cursor won't change to a hand as that it controlled by the hotspot, which will be hidden under the shape.
