Hotspot quiz questions return incorrect answer based on screen size

Mar 14, 2017

Dear Storyline Team,

My team has recently created a series of modules that make use of the hotspot quiz questions. We've received feedback from some users that when completing the hotspot questions, the pointer doesn't display where the user clicks, but slightly to the side, generating an incorrect result and frustrating the end user.

We've tested across several browsers and devices and identified the issue as relating to PCs with a smaller screen size (12 inches or less); with the browser set at 100%, the content doesn't fit and the hotspot pointer appears to the side of where the user has clicked. We worked out that if the browser if resized to 80%, then the issue is resolved. The advice we've been giving is as follows:

Resize the browser window so the module fits into the full screen. Recommended browser size: 80% for PCs with a monitor size of 12 inches.

Our player settings are as follows:

- Browser Size: Resize browser to optimal size
- Player Size: Lock player at optimal size

Is there a setting we can apply so that this issue doesn't occur and users don't need to resize the browser?

Appreciate any guidance you can provide.

Many thanks,

Chloe

Hi Chloe - Sounds like those smaller screens are just not big enough to handle the size of your story size.

I found a chart (yes, I had to research because I haven't used a monitor that small in a while):

So, as you can see your course is much larger than that and would explain why switching to a lower DPI/percentage works better on the smaller monitors. Your option being to change your story size or perhaps just continue to alert the users with the smaller monitors.

Hopefully some of your fellow community members will chime in with how they overcame this challenge if they have some experience to share.
