Hotspots function in .exe, but not in internet browsers

May 16, 2013

I have a Storyline project  that utilizes hotspots/triggers. When I preview it in Storyline, the hotspots/triggers function as expected. The triggers jump to the right slides, the videos launch successfully, etc. When I publish to CD and launch the executable file, the hotspots work there as well.

However, when I try to launch the project in a browser (or, if I just publish it for web instead), most of the hotspots stop functioning. One hotspot in particular even freezes the entire presentation if it's clicked. This happens in every browser I've tested (Chrome, IE, Firefox, and Safari).

Has anyone else had this issue? Or have any advice for how to troubleshoot this on my end? Thanks in advance.

Hi Leanne,

When you publish the course to web, are you actually getting the course uploaded to a web server, or are you trying to test it locally?

If you view published Storyline content on your local hard drive or send it to someone else to view on their local hard drive, you'll encounter security restrictions from the computer, web browser, Flash Player, and network that'll cause various features of your content to fail.
To properly test your published content and share it with others, upload it to the environment for which it was published. Check out this article for all the details.
Let us know if that resolves it...
Thanks!
