Hover state not restoring to previous state (freeform shape with custom state and trigger)

Aug 15, 2020

Hi all,

I have an image of a bird overlayed with three freeform shapes over different parts of the body. These freeform shapes are initially invisible and appear when hovered over. When any of them is clicked, another layer with additional information appears.

This is the setup:

The freeform shapes have two states: Normal and Invisible. Initial state is Invisible (100% transparency on the fill and outline); Normal is the hover state with the shape at about 50% transparency. So, I'm using a custom state Invisible with a custom trigger.

Most of the time this setup works as intended, but every now and then one of the hover states doesn't revert back to the Invisible state.

I'm pretty sure this is a bug, but I was wondering if there's anything I can do to prevent the behavior?

I looked at some of the previous discussions on hover states not reverting like this one and this one but they didn't match.

PS. I'm not using a Hover state (and its in-built functionality) because then the entire rectangle around the freeform shape is triggering the hover effect instead of just the shape itself.

2 notes on the video:

  1. I'm clicking so fast because it sometimes takes a while for the behavior to show. It also happens when clicking slowly, so I don't think there's any kind of conflicts due to timeline issues.
  2. In the beginning and towards the end I hovered over the shapes to show the effect without clicking, but it kind of looks like I might be clicking and the extra layers aren't showing. That's not what's happening though, that all works as intended. Only the frozen hover state is the problem.

Hi Lea,

Thanks for sharing that video of what you're experiencing! I tried the file myself in Storyline 360 Update 42, and couldn't replicate the issue no matter if I clicked slow or fast through each section.

Can you check to ensure you're on the latest update? You can see this by going to the Help tab and selecting About Storyline.

In the meantime, I've opened a case on your behalf with our support engineers to take a closer look and see if they can replicate what you're seeing. Be on the lookout for a reply soon!

Lea S

Thanks!

I just re-installed Storyline hoping to resolve some issues with the Montserrat font after publishing, so I can't look up what version I had when I recorded the video. But I just had the same thing happen with the update 42 version I installed 20 minutes ago.

Edit: I just tested it in the version published to Review 360 and the same happens (before, it happened in the preview version).
