How can I break up this very long "scene"?

Aug 24, 2017

I am rather new to Storyline.  I am working on a presentation/training which is REALLY long - came from a ppt. and am working with the SME to see how we can cut some of the words out - but for now, there are 80 slides in one scene.  And, there is more to be added.    The ultimate goal is to upload into our LMS.  Is it ok to have so many slides in one scene?  Should I break up the presentation into several scenes?   If so, I have no idea how to do that.   Any input or advice is appreciated.  Thanks.

Hi Katy

It'd be handy to see the slides, but appreciate that might not be possible :)

When I've imported ppt slides previously, I've had a similar problem.

I had to think outside of the box in terms of how the content was arranged.  On a number of occasions I was able to come up with an interaction whereby I put headers in to a makeshift table and link the headers to layers - each ppt slides then goes on to a layer...you still use all the ppt slides, but rather than having 80 pages of eLearning , you have 10 but with 8 layers on each page.

Another option you could think of would be to see if you can convert any of the information in to an infographic or even a video?  I've done that a few times too.

Unfortunately, the choices you have available to you really will depend on the content you have.

Hey Katy!

There's no rule that says you have to break up slides into scenes, but it certainly makes it look more organized if you include a menu in the player. Here's how it's done:

  1. In Story View, click New Scene. A new scene with a blank slide will appear. You can delete that blank slide if you don't need it. :)
  2. Select the slides you want to move into the new scene by clicking the first slide, hold down the Shift key, then clicking the last slide.
  3. Click and drag the slides into the new scene. Voilà!
