I have a limited space in which to put certain text and would like the text area to scroll if the text exceeds the allowable space. How can I do that, please?
For some reason I can not get the scrolling panel to work. I followed the tutorial exactly, but when I drag anything on top of the srcolling panel, it doesn't "mask" it. It just simply sits on top of it at full size.
What am I missing? I'm using the trial version...could that be it?
Make the textbox thinner and longer than the scroll panel. Also ensure that the text box has more text that actually needs to be scrolled, then drag it over the top, you will see it take and can then reposition and resize once it is into the box
Very odd. Here is a screenshot of the text box partially dragged into the scrolling panel. As you can see, it is not masked. I've been dragging that darn thing all over that panel, and it just won't take for me. I've also tried graphics with no luck.
Weird, Scott. The sample story file you sent a few messages ago seems to already be a perfect scrolling panel with text in it!
Don't know if this is what is getting you, but did you realize that you can click on the text box separately from the scrolling panel, and when you do that, the text box can be dragged off the scrolling panel? I didn't realize that at first and when I tried to reposition the scrolling panel, the text box kept coming alone instead.
BTW, mine are working fine now. You'll get it to work!
Finally figured it out! I was grabbing the large text box in the middle and dragging it over, and even after I released it, it still wasn't masked. I didn't realize that my grab point on the object that I want to scroll had to land within the scrolling panel when I dropped it.
Sorry for all of the confusion. I can't believe I missed that. Oh well, it's Friday...that's just telling me it's time for happy hour.
Thanks Phil and Ellen for your quick replies! This type of community support is one of the reasons I am recommending Storyline to my client.
Hi Cathy, could it have something to do with how your text is positioned within the scrolling panel? Is there any way you can attach your story here so we can take a look?
I'd agree with Nancy, this is something we'll need to take a look at to see what's happening with your text box and scrolling panel. If you're unable to share here I can send you directions to share with me privately and you're always welcome to connect with our Support engineers.
I was able to get it to work by stripping the formatting from your text box, then copying/pasting to a new text box that I dragged over the scrolling panel. The revised file is attached.
I'm glad that Elizabeth was able to assist you here - and it also looks like there was some animation within the text box as Phil mentioned and when I removed that the text appeared in the scroll panel.

Hi Ellen add a scroll panel on the insert menu and then add your text to a textbox, drag the text box onto the scroll panel
Fabulous! Thank you, Phil. Didn't realize it was a separate control.

AS Bruce says frequently

Thanks for the quick reply Phil. I've tried that, but no luck. I've attached a single-slide .story file for your perusal.
I'm sure I'm missing something simple....but I can't seem to find it.
Thanks!
Hi Scott, I just dragged it into the corner and it took straight away

Scott it wont mask until you drop it!

Glad it worked out, Scott. I really appreciate the community too.
Please have a drink for me. I'm still working over here... : )

Hey all -- hoping that someone can help me on this.
I am creating an elearning lesson and due to excessive text - need a scrolling panel.
I marked out the section of the slide where I created the panel and dragged the text inside. I got the scrolling panel right away ....
BUT when I click on PREVIEW - the scrolling panel, while there, is empty! No text is displayed?
I am perplexed...
There is definitely enough text for scrolling
The text is within the scrolling boundaries
I created the scrolling panel first then dropped in the text....
what could be causing this?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
~Cathy

Hi Cathy and welcome to Heroes!

I would check if you have any animations on the text box, I think there is an issue with scroll panels and animations
Hey all --
Happy to send....I believe I just attached that page for you....thanks for your help.
Hi Cathy,
I was able to get it to work by stripping the formatting from your text box, then copying/pasting to a new text box that I dragged over the scrolling panel. The revised file is attached.
Good luck with your project!
You Rock!!
Thank you so much!
Hi Cathy,

This was super helpful. Thanks!
